First week back and first outing for 4è

Back to school after the Hallowe’en break. And already a great program in view. Many thanks to the US Embassy and La Fondation des Etats Unis for inviting our 4è class to a private screening of documentary ‘Ghosts of Amistad: In the Footsteps of the Rebels’ followed by a discussion with its author and producer. A great way to explore themes linked to racial prejudice, discrimination and slavery that the students are studying in English and History/Geography.

The film chronicles a trip to Sierra Leone in 2013 to visit the home villages of the people who seized the slave schooner Amistad in 1839, to interview elders about local memory of the case, and to search for the long-lost ruins of Lomboko, the slave trading factory where their cruel transatlantic voyage began.
